National Vegetarian Week 2013

This is it, we’re now officially in National Vegetarian Week. What are your thoughts? Of the people I’ve asked, some are completely in favour but many others feel there are far more important issues we should be highlighting. After all, how could a vegetarian diet make any significant changes to world issues? Mmm, let’s see

So how will your ‘old pater’ be spending Father’s Day this year?

Apparently, in Germany it’s quite normal to go out and get completely %*&#+$ on father’s day. None of that for our chaps in the UK though. I suspect this is taking place while mum makes one of her fabulous Sunday lunches. Pah, is that what we want?

Customer service – the good, the bad and the downright evil.

Last year, 79 million people tried to ‘phone HMRC. That’s an awful lot of calls. But 20 million were unanswered. TWENTY MILLION! And of course, while we wait for our call not to be answered, we’re paying good money, which apparently totalled £136m!  (Do you remember my little rant about ‘phone call costs?)

HMRC set themselves a target of responding to 80% of letters within 15 days and guess what? Yep, they failed to meet their own target, managing just 66%. How absolutely dreadful.
